Yearning for God

I am called to live in such a perfect relationship with God that my life produces a yearning for God in the lives of others, not admiration for myself. Thoughts about myself hinder my usefulness to God.“-Chambers

What hinders me from the desire of my heart? Pride, arrogance, lust, greed, envy. These things that we see in our lives that keep us from truly yearning for God and allowing others to see that yearning for Him in our lives. I find that sometimes I sit and just allow myself to be satisfied with just getting by rather than ”having a reckless abandon for seeking God“ In casting crowns song ” In the middle“ I feel as though I have listened to the lies of satan to the point of not being aware that I have not been whole heartedly seeking God in every aspect but also dealing with the questions that arise in my life that draw me to His word as well. What is it in our lives that naturally draw us to our self-dependence? is it because we have so much that we don’t see a need for God? what is it? In my heart I believe it is a couple of things. 1.) We do have so much in our lives that” WE” make happen or ,at least we think we make things happen, that we think we can logically deal with all the issues that occur. 2.)We are numb to the fact that God wants to move and guide us in our lives. We some how think that just because He is God he doesn’t care about the “small” issues of our lives. Why wouldn’t he care, He gave his “only begotten son, so that who ever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” O how we soon forget the price that was paid.
The yearning we have for most things in our lives come and go so quickly. Whether it is the new iphone, the newest or greatest book, the new car, whatever it is the "yearning" leaves us so quickly. This reminds me of the the woman at the well when Christ says "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." I think we sometimes try to drink from a well that leaves us thirsty. My question to you is, "what are you thirsty for in your life?" What is the one thing that seems to drive you more in your life. Is it that next promotion at work? Is it the new car? What seems to be motivating you to keep getting out of bed and breathing in and out each day? Do you feel like you are caught in the middle of mediocrity? Just doing enough to get by? Drink from the well that never runs dry. Seek out the hard questions that you have in your life in light of the One who can truly answer for you and give your life meaning and purpose.
